You probably don't notice that this is the second time I've posted this because it's a bear to edit after you post with Qumana. Instead of editing I had to destroy the other post after posting this a second time...
It's interesting to see the different combinations and possibilities when you play a game. One of my favorite games is poker and it's not as hard to figure out the percentages and odds as you might think. For instance, in Texas Holdem, you have two cards and your opponent has two cards and you haven't seen anyone else's cards. There will be five cards face up in the middle that you both share. If you're new to poker, these are called community cards. So, with 52 cards in the deck and you and your opponent account for four of those cards [once you know what each other has], that leaves 48 cards remaining. Let's say that three community cards are already out on the table and with your two cards and the cards on the table you have four cards in a row like 5-6-7-8. If your opponent doesn't have any of the cards you need, you now have eight cards out of the deck to make your straight. 8 cards out of 44. So, eight divided by 44 will give you the percentage of times you will make a straight on the next card. If you miss your straight on the next card you will then have 8 cards out of 43 to make your hand. Now, whether you can do the calculations is another thing, but there are plenty of online calculators to help you find the answer to the problems. I played in ANOTHER FREE TOURNAMENT and got knocked out on the third hand. If you don't know anything about poker, you may as well look at another of the posts on this or another of my blogs like:
I had an Ace of clubs and a King of hearts. My opponent had an Ace of diamonds and a Six of clubs. I checked at this website and confirmed that I was about a three to one favorite or approximately 75% chance of winning. Still, that means one quarter of the time I would lose when we put all our chips in and watched the results. For you novices, this means that there can be no bluffing because all our chips are already in the pot. You can check out the odds yourself at:
